What is creatinine clearance?

Creatinine clearance (CrCl) is a measure of how well your kidneys filter creatinine (a waste product) from the blood, expressed in mL/min.

What is the Cockcroft-Gault formula?

CrCl = [(140 minus age) multiplied by weight in kg] divided by [72 multiplied by serum creatinine in mg/dL]. For women, multiply the result by 0.85.

Why is eGFR important for drug dosing?

Many drugs are excreted by the kidneys. A reduced eGFR means slower drug elimination, requiring dose reduction or longer intervals to prevent drug toxicity.
